It’s a no-brainer that absolutely should have been fixed months ago. Since Apple has been so focused on implementing fullscreen support in nearly every app, it only seems right to let us run multiple apps in fullscreen mode if more than one monitor is plugged in. Lastly, better multi-monitor functionality is likely on the way. Truth be told, it’s much faster to search with a full keyboard than it is to try to squeeze an answer out of Siri. We might see Siri make its way to the Mac, but since OS X already has built-in dictation, it would be of limited value. Google continues to push the envelope with Chrome, so it’s nice to see that Apple is still dedicated to keeping Safari snappy. So, what else can we look forward to in Cabernet? A rebuilt Safari backend is reportedly making the cut, and that would be a welcome addition. If that’s true, that feature alone might be worth the upgrade. Perhaps most importantly, the long-awaited tabbed Finder is rumored to be finally making its way into OS X.
Instead, we can expect to see optimizations and additional features aimed at speeding up OS X and improving usability. This isn’t going to be a big shift like Tiger to Leopard or Snow Leopard to Lion. Frankly, it’s surprising that we’ve heard so little about what Apple has up its sleeve.
